Ramsey real estate has had a flurry of residential, industrial and commercial development in the past few years. The rapid growth has rapidly moved the southwestern Anoka County city from bedroom community to a commercial center. Rising home values -- the median now is nearly $240,000 -- have diminished affordable housing in Ramsey. Since 2000, homes valued at $300,000 or higher have increased from 22 percent to 44 percent.

From starter home to million dollar mansion on a golf course, Ramsey offers a variety of homes for sale with wide appeal. But there has been a move in newer housing toward the upscale. That outlook changed in late 1994, when the city launched an active economic development initiative, buying 100-plus acres of vacant property for commercial development and putting in streets and municipal services to attract growing companies.
